Our Impact
COMMUNITY. CULTURE. CONNECTION
COMMUNITY. CULTURE. CONNECTION
Bush Medijina exists to support the wellbeing of Anindilyakwa women, families, and communities on Groote Eylandt. What began as a small enterprise led by local women has grown into a social enterprise with a deeper purpose: to protect our culture, pass on our bush knowledge, and create real opportunities for our people.
Bush Medijina is 100% Indigenous-owned, operated by the women of Groote Eylandt. We are governed by a board of strong Anindilyakwa women. Everything we do reflects our identity and our culture, from the way we harvest native botanicals to the way we tell our stories. We make decisions for our future, not for outsiders. This is self-determination in action.
Through our work, we are creating safe, meaningful jobs for women in one of the most remote parts of Australia. Our shed is more than a workplace, it’s a space where culture is protected, stories are shared, and wellbeing is prioritised.
We facilitate:
Everything we do is grounded in language, family, land, and a shared sense of purpose.
Bush Medijina is a social enterprise. That means every sale directly supports social, cultural, and economic outcomes for our community. Unlike commercial skincare brands, we don’t exist just to profit, we exist to heal, uplift, and strengthen. Our business model prioritises people and purpose, always. By choosing us, you’re choosing to support a circular economy driven by community, where the benefits stay local and the ripple effect is real.
All profits from Bush Medijina are reinvested back into programs that benefit our community. These include:
We believe profit should have a purpose. That’s why every product you buy helps grow something bigger than skincare.
Every balm, oil, and soap we make helps to keep our traditional practices alive. From the way we harvest native botanicals, to the language we speak in the shed, to the stories we tell each other while we work, culture is at the heart of everything we do.
Bush Medijina is more than a business. It is a place where women come together to share knowledge, learn new skills, and support each other. It's where younger generations learn from aunties and grandmothers, not just about bush medicine, but about strength, responsibility, and identity.
When you use our products, you’re not just nourishing your skin. You’re connecting with land, tradition, and the wisdom of First Nations women. You’re helping keep Indigenous culture alive and making space for more people to learn, listen, and walk gently on this land.
From our hands to yours, this is more than skincare. It’s story. It’s strength. It’s legacy.
